Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Specifications Review
For those who have active lifestyle, a rugged smartphone like Sony Ericsson Xperia Active could be a perfect companion in their daily activities. This phone is dust and water proof. The manufacturer claims that it can survive after being submerged in depths up to one meter for 30 minutes. The practical and hardwearing design also reflects its toughness. The Xperia Active sports a 3.0” LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution. The screen looks remarkable with the support of Mobile Bravia Engine technology. It brings out vivid colors, sharp text, and wide viewing angles. Despite the small size, the display has rich features including Scratch-resistant glass, Multitouch support, Touch sensitive controls, Timescape UI, Accelerometer, and Proximity sensor.
The Xperia Active is installed with Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System. An upgrade to v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) might be available by now. A 1 GHz Scorpion processor has an important duty regarding to the phone performance. The processor is backed by Adreno 205 GPU and 512 MB RAM. To accommodate your data and files, the Xperia Active provides 1 GB built-in storage (320 MB user available) and a preinstalled 2 GB microSD card. If you need larger space for your files, the memory card can be expanded up to 32 GB. For the connectivity, it offers a variety of options including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot; DLNA; Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, EDR; and microUSB v2.0.
On the rear side of the phone, you can find a 5 MP camera which features autofocus, LED flash, Touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilization, and video recording capability. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include a front-facing camera that can be used for video calling.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Android Software Update
Software updates for Sony Ericsson Xperia Active are released at different times depending on operator and country. Make sure your device has the latest software so you can enjoy optimal performance and all of its features. You can download the new software by connecting your phone to a computer and use Sony PC Companion application software. Before you start the software update, you need to have PC Companion installed on your computer.
To install PC Companion on Your Computer
- Turn on your new Android™ phone and connect it to a PC using a USB cable.
- Phone: Tap Install to install PC Companion on the PC.
- Computer: If a pop-up window that appears notifies you about available PC Software, select Run Startme.exe.
- Computer: Click Install to start the installation and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Tip: PC Companion is also available for download from the PC Companion download page.
Note: If you have just installed PC Companion on a computer, disconnect and then reconnect your phone before downloading the software updates.
To update your phone software using PC Companion
- Start your phone and connect it to a computer using a USB cable.
- Computer: Wait a few seconds for PC Companion to start. If PC Companion doesn’t start automatically, you can start it from the start menu on the computer.
- Computer: In the Support Zone application, click Start, and then select the Phone Software Update option. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: Do not disconnect the USB cable when updating your phone as it can damage the content being transferred.
